The JL Wrangler and Gladiator have removable doors. There’s just one issue with them: the side mirrors are attached to them, so if you remove the doors, you don’t have any side mirrors. This is desirable for hardcore off-roading, but not so desirable if all you want is to screw around driving with no doors.

Ford mounted the new Bronco’s mirrors to its pillars, which means you can drive a Bronco with no doors and still have mirrors.

Kinja'd!!!

So here comes Mopar to the rescue with their newfangled !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! so all their loyal, resale value-fluffing Wrangler and Gladiator customers don’t jump ship to Broncos for the mere privilege of having mirrors while driving with no doors .

The mirrors are breakaway style like factory, and supposedly provide a similar angle of view as if they were mounted to the doors. They have sufficiently burly brodozery brackets that add to the tacticoolness of the vehicle to which they are affixed. All for the low low price of $295.

Here, let’s read some PR boilerplate!

“Mopar offers more than 500 quality-tested, factory-backed performance parts and accessories across the entire Jeep lineup,” said Mark Bosanac, Head of Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care, FCA – North America. “With our new doors-off mirror kit, Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator owners will enjoy an improved range of vision during their open-air adventures.”

Unlike other aftermarket offerings, Mopar’s doors-off mirrors are specifically engineered and tested to original-equipment standards, providing a production-equivalent field of view with minimal vibration. Each mirror in the kit attaches to a cowl-end cap bolt and the upper door hinge. In addition, an innovative, custom thumb wheel-nut-clamp is used as an attachment point to the door flange.

Mounting brackets are finished with an anti-corrosion undercoat and durable black powder-coat finish. Mirrors include a built-in break-away feature that prevents damage while in tight spaces on the road or trail.

Installation is simple with the use of a T40 bit wrench, which is in the standard tool kit found in all new Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models. No special tools are required.

Yep, totally cuz of the Bronco.

Gentle reminder that both the aftermarket and now-factory options don’t preclude dropping the windshield, unlike the B ronco.

FWIW isn’t it good they’re taking notes? The people I know at jeep are happy the bronco came out. Gave them a bigger budget for the refresh and I’d bet that continues for  the next generation design too.

Somebody else posted this last week. Doubtful that anybody was planning on trading in their Jeep for a Bronco simply due to the release of a new $300 factory accessory that has been available forever on the aftermarket for $50. The same aftermarket part number fits 45 years ( !) of Jeeps, dating back to the CJ.

Most likely these will show up in two places - First bundled by dealers into some kinda “topless adventure package” with things like soft top and door storage thingies and an ANGERY grille, then sold to unwitting customers with 4 different extended warranties. Second , Doge DeMurano and all of the other internet car reviewers will note in their inevitable comparo that you get the feature included on one but it costs $300 on the other. That’s it.

How many guys/gals really want bugs in their teeth though?

Besides fun, what’s the reason for a folding windshield? It seems like the last thing I want less of in a vehicle.

As soon as it gets into the 90s I drop mine; sadly, wasn’t enough of that this summer.

It’s fun, it’s nice for hot weather, and it sure makes it easy to clean the inside of the windshield!

It’s not all that unusual. I’ve see multiple Jeeps at random on the roads or  parked with it down , I’ve seen an FJ-40 driving around with it down, and of course I do it myself when it’s hot.

No bugs in the face ? It seems like the best way to get bugs in your face . Or a stone.

You need a helmet.

During the day it’s not bad, but it depends on the locale and speed.

The good news is we’ve killed off a huge percentage of the bugs. The bad news, well...

It’d be hilarious if these mirrors got nicknamed “Bronco mirrors”.
